WVS Course Information

Wisconsin Virtual School offers a variety of 4K-12 courses that are aligned with national and state standards. WVS courses are available through a variety of WVS programs, as we seek to provide flexibility to all our district partners including:

  • part-time or full-time course enrollments;
  • asynchronous ("anytime, anywhere") or synchronous (live) instruction options;
  • our WVS instructors or using our content with your teachers;
  • and more!

Important To Know:

  • All WVS courses are provided by semester, which is equivalent to .5 credits. Credit is is granted by the local school district upon completion. WVS does not issue transcripts; families should contact their student's Local Coach or school counselor with any questions about scheduling, credit, or accessing their transcript.
  • Students in K-12 asynchronous courses are given up to 5 months (approximately 20 weeks) from the date of enrollment to complete each semester.
  • Students in our synchronous Plus (4K-8) program will follow the WVS school year calendar and daily/weekly schedules.
  • Course fees are charged depending on the chosen program / partnership option with WVS. Please see our pricing page for details. Fees typically cover registration, use of our software infrastructure, and course facilitation by a Wisconsin-certified teacher.

Selecting Courses

To determine appropriate placement for a learner, district personnel can utilize course syllabi for alignment to local scopes and sequences.

  • It is up to the local district to help students select courses that help complete local graduation requirements and fit in with any already-completed coursework sequences. WVS does not require nor enforce pre-requisites.
  • Standards alignment documentation and information are available upon request.
  • "Curriculum Review" access (available upon request) will provide a look at the first module of most courses to preview the design, types of activities, and to test local devices being used. To request curriculum review access, please contact WVS at 715-453-1953 or wvshelpdesk@cesa9.org.

Textbooks & Materials

  • Materials are listed on course syllabi as well as the WVS Materials List.
    • Most WVS courses do not require additional materials beyond a typical student device that has reliable Internet access.
    • Required materials (physical, software, eText, etc) for a course must be purchased by the sponsoring district or student.
  • A few WVS courses are not compatible with Chromebooks or tablets due to specific software download requirements. This will be noted on the course syllabus if applicable. See the Computer Technology Readiness document for coaches/IT staff for more information on minimum technology requirements.
